Complete TH17 base guide 2026. Covers all base types and explains what changed defensively from TH16, why multi-opener attacks dominate, and where to find tested layouts.
Moving from TH16 to TH17 doesn't just add new defenses — it elevates the entire competitive bracket. The attack strategies you faced at TH16 are still present at TH17, but executed at higher troop levels, higher Hero Equipment tiers, and with more coordination. Multi-opener attacks — where the Royal Champion Walk and a Queen Charge run in sequence before the main army — become the norm rather than the exception. Every base type at TH17, whether war, CWL, or trophy, needs to be built with this in mind.
The defenses you already built at TH16 gain additional upgrade levels, increasing their DPS and health. The attack toolkit available to your opponents also expands at higher troop levels. The biggest change isn't a single new defense or troop — it's the player pool. At TH17, most of your war opponents are experienced players who have spent significant time refining their attack strategies. Single-opener attacks from newer TH16 players are largely replaced by planned multi-opener attacks from players who have been running them for months.
War bases at TH17 need to account for multi-opener attacks on every defense. Air defenses spread across all four base quadrants limit RC Walk efficiency. Deep Town Hall placement — behind at least four wall layers — requires the main army to fight through enough trap-dense sections that time failure becomes likely. CWL bases apply the same logic with higher precision: tighter core compartments, more aggressive trap stacking, and Clan Castle placement in the deepest core position. Replay analysis after each CWL day is how TH17 bases improve across the season, identifying which section the attacker reached most easily and concentrating defensive adjustments there.
Legend League at TH17 means defending against max-Hero-Equipment attackers who attack specifically for trophies daily. Trophy bases at this level need the same multi-opener resistance as war bases — a Town Hall that can be reached in 90 seconds by an RC Walk alone will give up trophies to every serious Legend League attacker. The Town Hall should be in the base core, surrounded by the highest-DPS defenses with Seeking Air Mines covering the approach corridors. The goal is to make each trophy raid costly enough that attackers fail to 2-star cleanly, not just that they fail to 3-star.
All TH17 base types are in the full TH17 collection. War and CWL layouts are separated in TH17 war bases and TH17 CWL bases, with the CWL pool specifically curated for the multi-opener environment at this bracket.
TH17 is patched frequently alongside TH18. Any Hero Equipment change, Root Rider adjustment, or new troop level addition affects which base designs hold. Downloading layouts from the community Most Downloaded filter before each CWL season ensures your defense reflects current meta knowledge. Base designs that were excellent before a patch often have newly exploitable openings that top attackers identify within days of the update going live.
