Getting 3-starred at Town Hall 13 is demoralizing -- and often avoidable. The difference between a base that gives up 3 stars and one that holds at 2 almost always comes down to specific design decisions: how compartments are arranged, where key traps are buried, and whether the Town Hall can be reached before time runs out. The Most Common TH13 3-Star Routes

Before you can defend against 3-stars, you need to understand how they happen. At TH13, the three most common routes to a perfect attack are:

  • Queen Walk cleanup -- the attacker uses the Archer Queen to systematically strip the outside ring of defenses, leaving the inner base exposed to a clean army sweep
  • Hog Rider cycle -- a Hog Rider army cycles through the base while Grand Warden's ability keeps them alive long enough to clear every building
  • Air snipe -- Electro Dragons or Balloons kill the Scattershots first, then clean up air defenses until the base is open

Anti-Queen Walk Design at TH13

The Queen Walk is the most reliable 3-star opener at TH13. Stopping it requires disrupting the walk rather than trying to out-tank it -- the Queen has too much HP to simply kill with defenses. Instead:

  • Place Spring Traps on outside building clusters the Queen typically walks through
  • Ensure Seeking Air Mines are not where a Queen Walk would trigger them -- save those positions for air armies
  • Put Clan Castle troops where they engage the walking Queen, not the army behind her

Anti-Hog Rider Design at TH13

Hog Riders die to Double Giant Bombs. The trick is placing those bombs where Hog Riders will actually path -- typically between wall gaps that funnel them through a single chokepoint. A good TH13 anti-3-star layout has at least three Double Giant Bomb positions that cover the most likely Hog Rider paths around the base perimeter.

Protecting the Scattershot

The Scattershot is the most important defense to protect against air armies at TH13. Place it in a compartment that requires clearing at least two wall layers to reach, and surround it with Air Bombs and Seeking Air Mines on the approaches. Attackers who lose their Electro Dragons trying to reach the Scattershot rarely have enough army left for a clean 3-star.
